Careers at Granny's

Think You Can Survive the Gauntlet?

We're not looking for people who just want another cleaning job. We're looking for people who want to learn, grow, take on responsibility - and maybe one day own a business of their own.

Granny's Clean Up & Maintenance works in one of the toughest corners of the service industry: short-term rentals.

A guest checks out. Another guest is coming in. The property has to be ready. Not tomorrow. Today.

That means deadlines matter. Communication matters. Details matter. And when something goes wrong, somebody has to figure it out.

THE GAUNTLET

Two peak seasons. Approximately 18 months.

During that time, contractors build real-world experience across short-term rental cleaning and property operations. Every clean matters.

Quality is measured, performance is tracked, and contractors who want to advance are expected to maintain an A average while demonstrating reliability, communication, professionalism and the ability to solve problems.

It's demanding by design. Because running your own business is demanding too.

Earn It. Learn It. Own It.

Contractors who successfully complete The Gauntlet may become eligible to advance into the Granny's Entrepreneur Development Program.

Up to four qualifying contractors per development cycle may be selected to continue toward ownership.

For those selected, Granny's will pay for approved business education through Pensacola State College, including certificate coursework in areas such as:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Business operations
  • Management
  • Accounting
  • Human resources
  • Business law
  • Marketing
  • Leadership

And the education doesn't necessarily stop with one certificate. Contractors who continue progressing toward ownership may remain eligible for additional approved coursework paid for by Granny's.

What You'll Learn in the Field

College can teach you how a business works. The Gauntlet teaches you what happens when the phone rings at 11:30 on a Saturday and something has gone wrong.

  • Short-term rental turnover operations
  • Quality control and inspections
  • Scheduling and logistics
  • Property condition reporting
  • Customer and owner communication
  • Working under hard deadlines
  • Handling mistakes and solving problems
  • Pricing and understanding account economics
  • Training and supporting other contractors
  • Managing multiple properties
  • Building long-term customer relationships

The Ownership Path

Independent Contractor - Build your skills, learn the industry and establish your quality record.

Senior Contractor - Demonstrate consistent A-level work and greater independence.

Portfolio Lead - Begin learning quality oversight, contractor development, property coordination and account economics.

Owner-Operator Candidate - Complete approved business education while gaining hands-on experience in the operational side of running a company.

Owner-Operator - Build and operate your own portfolio with access to the Granny's network, systems, mentorship and support.

Our goal is to give people a real runway into entrepreneurship - not a promise of overnight success.

What Happens After Ownership?

We want people to eventually have choices. Qualified Owner-Operators may operate within the Granny's network during their development period while building their own business and customer base.

After completing the program, they can choose whether continuing under the Granny's umbrella makes sense for them. If they decide it's time to go completely independent, we want them to leave better prepared than when they arrived. That's part of the point.

Not Interested in Going Back to School?

That's okay. Not everyone who earns the opportunity will want or be able to attend college.

An earned Granny's education benefit may also be transferable to an eligible immediate family member, subject to program rules and the approved education allowance.

If you've put in the work to earn it, we still want that investment to do some good.

Who Are We Looking For?

You don't need a perfect resume. You don't need years of cleaning experience. And you don't need to already know how to run a business.

You do need to be dependable. You need to communicate. You need to take pride in your work. You need to be able to hear that something wasn't good enough, fix it, learn from it and do better next time.

During peak season, you also need to understand that vacation rentals run on guest schedules. Cleans occur on specific days and within specific turnover windows.

If you're looking for an opportunity to prove what you can do, learn how a real service business operates and potentially build something of your own - Welcome to The Gauntlet.

Earn It. Learn It. Own It.

Contractor Development Program Questions & Answers

What is The Gauntlet?

The Gauntlet is the first stage of Granny's Contractor Development Program. It consists of approximately 18 months of active contractor experience, including two peak short-term rental seasons. The purpose is simple: before Granny's invests heavily in someone's development toward business ownership, we want to see how they perform in the real world.

Do I automatically enter the ownership program after 18 months?

No. Time alone does not qualify someone. Contractors interested in advancing must demonstrate consistently strong performance, including maintaining an A-level quality average and meeting Granny's standards for reliability, communication and professionalism. Up to four qualifying contractors may be selected during each development cycle.

How are cleans graded?

Granny's is developing a standardized quality grading system so advancement is based on measurable performance rather than favoritism or someone's personal opinion. Quality scores may include cleanliness, presentation, completion of required tasks, documentation, communication and other property-specific standards.

What happens if I make a mistake?

You fix it and learn from it. Business owners make mistakes too. What matters is how you respond. Repeated quality problems, poor communication, missed commitments or failure to improve will affect advancement. One correctable mistake does not automatically end someone's opportunity.

What does Granny's pay for?

Contractors selected for the Entrepreneur Development Program may receive Granny's-funded approved coursework through Pensacola State College. Depending on the individual's path, coursework may include entrepreneurship, business management, accounting, human resources, operations, marketing, business law and related subjects. Granny's may also continue paying for approved classes as the contractor progresses toward ownership.

Do I have to repay the tuition if I eventually leave Granny's?

No. The education is an investment Granny's is making in people who have earned the opportunity. Our hope is that graduates build successful businesses within the Granny's network, but we also understand that people's lives and plans change.

What if I don't want to attend college?

Earning the education benefit does not mean you have to personally use it. Under the program rules, the benefit may be transferable to an eligible immediate family member. We don't want someone who has earned the opportunity to lose it simply because college isn't the right choice for them personally.

Does Granny's guarantee that I'll become a business owner?

No. We'll provide a path, education, experience, mentoring and opportunities. The contractor still has to do the work. Business ownership requires judgment, reliability, leadership, financial discipline and the ability to solve problems.

What happens between cleaning and ownership?

Responsibility increases gradually. A contractor may progress from independent cleaning work into senior-level responsibilities, quality inspections, training, portfolio coordination and eventually learning the financial and customer-management side of the business. Nobody should go from cleaning their first property to being handed a business.

Will every contractor be expected to supervise other people?

No. Some people are excellent contractors but don't want to lead a team. Leadership and ownership development will be based on both ability and interest. Advancement doesn't require everyone to follow exactly the same path.

Why short-term rentals?

Because they're unforgiving - in a useful way. A property may have only a few hours between one guest leaving and another arriving. That teaches scheduling, attention to detail, customer expectations, communication, logistics and problem solving very quickly. Someone who can consistently perform well through two peak seasons has demonstrated something meaningful.

What is an Owner-Operator?

An Owner-Operator is someone who has progressed beyond performing individual cleans and is developing or operating a portfolio as an independent business. That can include responsibility for customers, properties, other contractors, quality control, scheduling, pricing and business operations.

What is the Granny's umbrella?

The long-term vision is a network of independent Owner-Operators who can share systems, support, training, branding, business resources and opportunities while operating their own businesses. During the supported ownership phase, Granny's is developing a model in which a percentage of qualifying account revenue helps fund the shared infrastructure, education and support behind the network. Final terms will be clearly disclosed before anyone enters that stage of the program.

Am I required to stay with Granny's forever?

No. The goal is ownership, not dependency. After completing the required owner-development period, an Owner-Operator may choose to remain within the Granny's network or move forward independently. We hope to build something valuable enough that successful operators choose to stay.

Why is Granny's doing this?

Because there are plenty of jobs that teach people how to work for somebody else. There aren't nearly enough places teaching people how to eventually work for themselves. Granny's wants to use a real-world service environment to help capable people learn how a business actually works, then combine that experience with formal business education.

Is this a shortcut to owning a business?

No. That's why we call the first 18 months The Gauntlet. Earn It. Learn It. Own It.
